Van Gogh once asked, “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” and that includes a trip through the world’s largest collection of his artwork! Skip the line and join one of our certified guides for a 2-2.5 hour journey through the life of this fascinating artist.

You’ve probably heard of Van Gogh and the unfortunate story of how he lost an ear, but how much do you really know about the artist who would change the course of art history forever? Now is your chance! Join one of our private guides for a personalized journey through this must-see museum. (And don’t forget, your ticket is valid all day, so you can come back as many times as you like!)

As you walk through the world’s largest collection of Van Gogh’s work and personal items, you’ll hear the stories behind his self-portraits, his famous sunflowers, and iconic paintings like “Wheatfield with Crows” and “Yellow House”. You’ll also learn the details of his turbulent life, and how his personal misadventures affected his artistic production, including, yes, that whole cutting off his ear thing.

We thank Babylon Tours' chief, Tom Dolan, for assigning Victoria to our family. She is an incredible, electrifying guide- truly knowledgable and passionate about Art, especially about Van Gogh. Throughout the several hours we spent with her, pouring over most of the significant art works at the very well laid out and organized museum, she systematically brought to life the tortured soul that was Van Gogh. Victoria made us see how much of Van Gogh's emotions, experiences and madness is reflected in his work, she also showed us works of other great painters who influenced him. Victoria had an in depth knowledge of his family, friends and acquaintances. She knew of his complex relationships with almost everyone. She also told us in detail about Van Gogh's tragic demise and the mystery surrounding it. Everytime she would bring us towards a masterpiece she would allow us my husband and I and our young daughters time to analyse it, before giving her expert opinion about it. The Van Gogh Museum, the brain child of the late painter's nephew, is in itself a marvel- every floor one ascends takes one into one part of the artist's mind and to one stage of his life. By the time we reached the top level, we felt we were looking at everything through his tortured eyes. The Museum shop too has merchandise that is worth purchasing, catering to all age groups and budgets. Touring the Van Gogh Museum on your own is possible, but it's a whole different experience having a spectacular guide bring the artist, his life and masterpieces alive for you. This was an exceptional tour and made our visit to the Van Gogh Museum unique. My husband has hearing issues and was able to experience the museum in a fuller way with our excellent private tour. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Our guide was wonderful! Unfortunately for some travelers she's about to have a baby and will be out for a bit. We really enjoyed our time viewing the wonderful art and having her input! The lines were long and we go right in and as we toured the place became vary busy. I would recommend as early an early morning tour so you can miss the crowds.

A great way to visit the museum. Our guide, Pina, was fantastic. Informative and very personable. She gave us a great introduction to Van Gogh and his art in about 2 1/2 hours walking through all of the galleries. We were then able to take a break in the very nice cafe in the museum before going back to the galleries to visit the paintings and exhibits in greater detail. Being able to avoid the entry lines and the crush of people using audio tours was terrific. We took the morning tour and by the time we went back for our second go around the crowds had thinned. Highly recommended.

This was a highlight. We learned so much in a reasonably short period of time. I would recommend this for anyone who is the least bit interested in Van Gogh. My only disappointment is that many of his major works are in other museums across the world.

Excellent value. The guide was punctual and very informative. The museum was well laid out and presented in a way to inform the art novice as well as still interest the person with more knowledge.

Victoria gave us a great tour that moved along quickly but still told us all we needed to know and she was able to answer all questions we had. I've seen quite a few of Van Gogh's masterpieces in New York, Paris, Chicago and other places but to see the whole story in one place along with some wonderful paintings I had never seen was a great experience for me and my wife.

My wife and I went on a private tour of the Van Gogh museum while on our honeymoon and it was wonderful. Our guide was very informative and friendly. We did not know much about van Gogh before visiting the museum so we wanted a tour to let us know the story and history behind what we were looking at. This was a great choice because we really got to learn the story behind his life and the stories behind each painting. We highly recommend booking the store if you're visiting Amsterdam.

We very much enjoyed this tour. Our guide was an expert on Van Gogh and gave an excellent talk regarding the struggles Van Gogh underwent to develop a style. We stopped at significant paintings along the way as examples of his struggles. We also got a good picture of the life Van Gogh lived and theories about his tragic death. We highly recommend this tour.

  • Maureen S Maureen S

Guide was fantastic. Let us go at our pace vice being rushed. She gave us lots of insights on what we were viewing. Museum had many visitors but it didn't seem crowded. Viator and Amsterdam have got it right when it comes to taking care of tourists.
